San Francisco architect Anne Fougeron grew up bicultural in Paris and New York. Her firm’s work explores the opportunities created by opposites: old and new, industrial and residential, rustic and refined. Fougeron and her team begin a project by examining the quality and character of the site’s natural light. Carefully selected materials engage the senses of sight and touch while the form of the structure becomes the architectural ornamentation. The firm collaborates with expert artisans and craftsmen to produce award-winning buildings for both the private and public sector. Opposition/Composition is the first monograph on this much- heralded firm published by Princeton Architectural Press. Introduced by Hitoshi Abe, the book features fourteen projects that display the breath of their work.
