John Berggruen Gallery

It might seem like fate when John Berggruen opened his Union Square gallery forty-two years ago. Berggruen’s father was the famed European art dealer and collector, Heinz Berggruen. But the younger Berggruen’s life took a few detours first. It was only after he connected with his father’s passion for art that John Berggruen Gallery was created. Originally specializing in the sale and exhibition of European 20th century limited edition prints, the gallery expanded to include the paintings, drawings and sculptures of American artists. With a strong affiliation to the New York School, Berggruen also focussed on prominent artists from the Bay Area Painting movement. Today he and his wife Gretchen continue to dazzle collectors and patrons with a unique offering of both established and contemporary artists.
